Like any outdoor product, your kids trampoline still requires a health check now and again although, Springfree Trampolines need very little maintenance. Your trampoline is constantly exposed to the elements between the sun, rain, wind and the debris it brings and where it’s positioned in the garden, could also be making it a little difficult to keep clean and tidy.
What’s the mold on my trampoline?
If your trampoline is hidden under trees, the green could be the cause of the lichen; the green moss monster that covers your trampoline! Lichen is a form of bacteria or algae that comes in different forms but can look like moss. It feeds off sunlight, rainwater and mildew which helps it form a bright green colour over time.
How do we clean the lichen off the trampoline?
You don’t need any specific cleaning tools to help remove it. Depending on the thickness of its coating, it could be as easy as washing up liquid and warm water with a soft bristled brush. Or giving it a blast with a jet wash, if you have one, will also help get rid of the stubborn bits.
If you are a proud Springfree Trampoline owner, we would advise you not to use any harsh chemicals that may tarnish the UV coating on the net and mat. Anything stronger than washing up liquid may be corrosive to the materials or colouring of your trampoline and could be harmful to those using it.
So, how can you avoid lichen and what do you need to do to maintain your trampoline?
It’s important to take care of your trampoline to keep it in perfect condition. Turn these checks on your trampoline into a monthly routine (you can even create a game out of them and involve the children!):
- Check over the frame for any paint chips, marks or dents.
- Check for any fraying or holes within the net or mat.
- Mat rod holders – these sit underneath your mat, check these are clear and inserted correctly
- Short white mat rods and net rods – ensure the sleeves are intact, properly installed and are not slipping down.
- Long net rods – make sure these are fully inserted into the pockets at the top of the net.
- C-clips – These hold the net rods into the frame at the bottom of the sockets. Check all is accounted for and none are missing!
- Ensure no shoes are worn on the trampoline to avoid unwanted dirt and damage to the bouncing surface
- Using a soft bristle brush, sweep away leaves or twigs around the jump surface
Clean your trampoline regularly either with a garden hose or jet wash to get rid of dirt and debris
In the summer months, you can make cleaning your trampoline fun! Place either a sprinkler under your kids trampoline or a garden hose on the mat surface, use a little bit of washing up liquid and have your own foam party! Little do the children know, they’re having lots of fun but are actually cleaning their trampoline!
